Down with paper and plastic! Up with cute reusable bags!

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

At this point, everyone seems to have their favorite environmentally friendly shopping bag; mine just happens to be Envirosax. I have literally toted more than a dozen magazines in one of these, and it's held up so well. (My arm, on the other hand, hurt like crazy under the weight. Sigh.) Plus, they roll up into a teensy bundle, so I can always have a couple stashed in the bottom of my bag in case I might go shopping. (Which, as it's probably pretty clear by now, happens quite a lot.)

I'm loving their brand-new Japanese-inspired designs (above); they're so new they're still only available for pre-order on the U.S. site for 8.50 each . My style of choice so far has been the sweetly graphic Flora collection (below); in fact, I'm about to go pick up a couple more at Greater Goods this week.

Our company is about to debut at the in NYC on the last week end of April. We make reusable shopping bags that are flexible fashionable and socially concious. All of our bags are made in New Orleans by Hurricane Katrina Survivors. In fact all of our vendors are outsourced there. We wanted to give new business and jobs to a struggling economy in New Orleans. Our bags hold twice as much as a plastic bag because they are flexible and they bounce when you walk so whatever you are carrying seems lighter. The website is not done yet but we are almost ready to hit the streets. Stay tuned! Joan Elmore
PS part of our proceeds go to Hope House in New Orleans a charity that feeds, trains and helps the homeless find housing. You can see the bags at

if more people could focus on these campaigns for the sake of our planet's future! It may sound naive, but I'm kinda dreaming of a safe future for our children.
