Notes and Events and Other Caffeinated Ramblings

Thursday, April 05, 2007

Today's post comes to you from the airy confines of Café Galilee, the nice little coffee shop in the Orchard Road library branch (5th floor, Ngee Ann City). We here at Fashion is Spinach have grown a little tired of our home office, and so are testing out satellite spaces in various friendly neighborhood coffee shops. Do you have a suggestion for a spot where there is a) free wireless, b) caffeine, c) interesting people but not too crowded, and d) caffeine? Please leave it in the comments! A full round-up of options, which will likely include some sort of cappuccino rating system, will come shortly.

Note: The cappuccinos at Café Galilee are not great. (And! No sugar substitute!)

However: The library book selection is an awesome perk, though I fear also somewhat distracting. {see photo}

Also: I've had to switch seats three times to find a working electric outlet. Clearly, I'm a novice at this whole coffee shop-work thing. I'm pretty sure the other kids here are looking at me with a mixture of disdain and pity.

Moving on: If you're like me and had your holiday travel plans cancelled (someday, Burma – someday!), you may enjoy this list of upcoming Singapore events, both this weekend and in the future. Just think – all the money you're saving by not going away can now be put toward fashion purposes!

+This weekend (Friday and Saturday, April 7-8), the crafty market MAAD is back at the Red Dot Design Museum. We haven't been in awhile and it sounds like it will be fun (poetry on demand! cool artsy exhibitions!). See, we totally don't need spectacular holiday plans to have a good time.

+And then next Saturday (April 14), there's our own fun film screening of the style documentary Unzipped. With a totally groovy raffle prize that will be announced very, very shortly. I mean, you don't have to come or anything, but there are still some tickets left and we'd love to have you.

Also, the lovely Dorothy at Dotted Line sent out a note on a couple of upcoming local fashion events that she'll be involved with:

+The first is the fashion bazaar Fash Bash, also on Saturday, April 14, from 11am-9pm. Details are here. It looks cool!

+Then the following Saturday (April 21) from 10:30am-6:30pm is the Girls' Day Out Party Fair, which looks to be a smorgasbord of fun housewares, accessories and fashion items. Plus an extremely cute invititation (a snippet is below). It's at 76 Taman Warna Road, Chip Bee Gardens, Holland Village. The full invite can be found over here.

What have I missed this month? Please leave it in the comments or send an e-mail. We are terrible about replying to e-mails in a timely fashion, but we do enjoy receiving them.

{Coffee update: I now realize the cappuccinos at Café Galilee are incredibly strong and may have just redeemed themselves quite a bit by providing a fantastic caffeine buzz. Whee!}

hi ms spinach, imagine my pleasant surprise when i saw my name on your latest post - thanks so much for the mention! Suggestions for a coffee place with wireless - try Book Cafe (20 Martin Road, #01-02 Seng Kee Building). Besides the required, there are also lots of magazines and books to browse!

Wonderful events, what a shame they are so far away. Love the cute Girls' Day Out invite, vintage awesomeness.
