So. Incredibly. Splurge-Worthy.
Loewe is an LVMH-owned Spanish luxury brand that's really huge in Europe and Asia, but almost unheard of in the U.S. and nearly impossible to find (according to the website, its only American retail locations are in the San Francisco airport and Honolulu). Which is probably why it's so appealing to me – that, and the fact the Mulberry alum Stuart Vevers is now helming the brand's design team.
Walking by the Beijing store the other day, several gorgeous bags caught my eye – in particular, the "Fiesta" model (which comes in some fantastic super-saturated colors, including – special note to reader Kimmy! – a fab "strawberry" hot pink). I love the classic, oversized shape and the just-distinctive-enough leather link detailing. Perhaps I should start saving now for my next trip abroad?
P.S. I was trying to be good and didn't tempt myself by asking the saleswoman the price. Can any of my readers abroad check it out and share with the group how much it would set us back? Not including the plane ticket, of course.
P.P.S. After a *lot* of internet-ing, I'm reasonably convinced that the brand's name is correctly pronounced "Luay-vay". Although there are many people who insist it is pronounced more like "Loy-vay". Would anyone like to weigh in on this?

that top picture is perfect.
"Loewe" is the Anglicized version of the German word for lion. It gets an "e" added and the umlaut (that's two dots next to each other) over the "o" dropped when it's translated from the German, since we don't have umlauts in English.
It's pronounced something like "looh-vuh," with the emphasis on the first syllable. And the bags are gorgeous!! -the DCGF
Concur with DC on the pronunciation. And I'm afraid I'll have to go snooping around the SF airport next time I'm up in Silicon Valley; that yellow bag is a perfect spring tonic, when you take your tonics with lemons.
ah, but, see... i read that. but i think this one might be different, perhaps because of its spanish influence?
this old ny times article says the founding family pronounces their name "lew-ay-vay" (they got it straight from the source, enrique.) in singapore, people always said something closer to "loy-ay-vay". i think might just use skype and call a store to settle this once and for all. : )
oh, but thank you!
Hi!
I don't know if I'm going to solve the superb problem of "how to pronunce brands names perfect" as you can hear lots of different pronunciations.
I am from Spain (and the brand is spanish)and here at least at the advertisements its sounds some kind of "LOEV" the last letter is a kind of mix between a V and a f and tries not to sound to much (with that kind of sensual accent they say the word you can't really decide).
Now the problem is if you are gonna understand what I mean by "LOEV" in pronunciation, because the ones I have read seem too strong, at least compared to what I have heard.
Too long, but I hope it helps.
:)
ooooh! pretty :)
i like your blog
$9500 HKD
Ouch. a tad pricey, but it sure is beautiful!
Haha! I have been such an embarrassing twerp, pronouncing it as Low-wee. Yes, quite literally as the way it is spelled.

But I think I would have to go with "how to pronounce..." because after all, he/she is Spanish!
thanks, jen. but: ouch. (that's like $1200 U.S.)
guess i'll be sticking to worshipping from afar. in the meantime, i'm redirecting my bag interest back to hayden-harnett's sale. the hudson, the bernardin and the catalina models have all caught my eye.
of course, i say all these things as if i really *need* a new bag. which, i admit, i probably do not.
I know a woman who is a consultant for Loewe.... it is pronounced Low-eh-vee apparently...
its pronounced as loh-ay-vey
gasp. i want one.
that is all.
