Spring Wishlist, Part 5-ish: Nude Heels

Wednesday, April 21, 2010

I know a few of you (hi, Lydia!) caught my fashion segment on NBC-4 here in D.C. a few weeks ago when I declared that my number one must-buy for spring was a pair of nude patent pumps. (IMHO, a bright pink dress or breezy printed sheath can look totally different if you pair them with black heels vs. a light, neutral nude.)

I scored a pair of Brian Atwood pumps (similar to the ones above) during a super-sale at Hu's Shoes last year, but finally had to face the reality that 100mm pumps, no matter how pretty, are not viable daily attire. I've supplemented with the not-quite-as-statementy, but infinitely-more-comfortable Cole Haan "Air Lainey" wedges, below (on sale for $130), which are doing the job nicely and are definitely work- and walking-appropriate.

Which, slightly awkwardly, segues into my next announcement (drum roll....), which is that -- if you've missed my various Twitter/Facebook/other announcements so far -- I've resigned from the Post and accepted a new job with Ogilvy working on all things digital/blog-y/social media-related. I'm pretty excited to start next month, and not just because I now have carte blanche to ramp up the work wardrobe a bit. Expect more work-related "Wishlist" posts to come soon...

I'm sad you're leaving the Post - I'm interning with Express Night Out this summer and was looking forward to maybe meeting you.

Congratulations on the new position! Your Post write-ups will be missed but Ogilvy sounds like a great new opportunity for you!
Speaking of patent nude pumps, the J. Crew Juliet heel from a few seasons back - the one with the natural wood heel - in the pale bone color is my go-to nude patent heel this year. perfect height, great round toe. ebay still has them. I highly recommend!

I am in love with these shoes. These are the moments I wish I was not 6'1 and awkwardly ankled. My ankles would keel over in the first pair of heels, but the second pair are to die for. LOVE the blog.

Love the pumps...but they sure aren't "nude" for an African American woman like me. I don't think "pink" should automatically be considered synonymous with "nude." I once went to one of those Victoria's Secret free panty deals, and they said you could choose "black, white or nude," so I chose a cocoa brown pair. Nope. Nude to me, wasn't "nude" to them.

I can't do super sky-high heels, either so the Cole Haan's are definitely more up my alley. How comfortable are they at the back of the heel? I'm always leery of patent leather--it can be stiff and pinch-y right at the Achilles tendon.

oooh yes. I'm on a mission to find some great nude pumps too! I want them sky-high to try my best to make my short little legs look miles long. :)

I just went to lunch yesterday and my friend had on gorgeous nude pumps. They looked great with her black suit. I now have to have a pair! The funny thing is that she got them at Target!

Great blog. So glad I found it!

Cheers,
Marcie
