Look Up, Look Up, Wherever You Are

Forgive me for going all history teacher on you, but I have a newfound obsession with rotundas. There's just something unbelievably breathtaking about the inside of the domes — the symmetry, the detailing, the construction, the colors.

Of course, we have an amazing rotunda here at the Capitol Building in D.C. (above), but there are incredible ones all over the world, including many, many U.S. state capitals. (A flickr search confirms it. Plus did you know there is actually a "ceilings" section on Allposters? Amazing.)

Here are just a few that have me thinking round today…

some of these remind me of Gothic Architecture... with some Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass quality. Very inspirational. :-)

My husband is a structural engineer so most of our vacation photos end up turning into architecture photos. We just went to the Capitol a few weekends ago to take pictures of the rotunda and I was flipping through images from when we went to Italy and Rome, they really are stunning but I'm happy to know there are posters too! I have a thing for framing images of places we've been.

I unfortunately did not get a chance to attend the FW Anniversary party, with the fabulous Scott Schuman, but my sister did and she called me up to help her figure out who designed your dress! She said it was so lovely and looked fantastic on you! Luckily I was able to help her figure out the designer of your dress by stalking your blog. I love your blog.

Seriously - so random . . . and so cool. I miss having time to read your blog more regularly (or write MY blog, for that matter . .. or, really do anything, but work.) sigh.

Hello, I am Liuri. I stumble upon your blog while searching for vintage photos. I fell in love with the photos your presented here! I just want to introduce myself to you so I do not sound like a complete stalker ;) and it is the proper thing to do.

The first building is amazing! the colours are very modern yet the architecture is quite vintage. I absolutely love the juxtaposition presented in this photograph. Great choice! I will be following your blog more often.
