Pay no attention to the ridiculous airbrushing…

Wednesday, November 26, 2008

If you could just bear with me and ignore this model's unattractive makeup job, can I just say how much I love her knee-grazing oversized pearls? With a floor-length dress, they give just the right vibe of upscale classic and unusual-cool.

{Image via chickdowntown.com, which apparently does not stock the pearls. Or if they do, I can't tell, because the search function on the site apparently is not working. Hrumpf. Here it is! Yours for only $1,017 from Erickson Beamon. Gulp. Or, you could just be like me, and work on trying to fashion an 86"-long necklace yourself. Stay tuned!}

Now, see, if that was me, I'd still be the woman at the door detangling myself from the door handle.

I'm going off right now to see how I piece together my various pearl necklaces into one long rope. I envisage pearls all over the carpet and me bent over trying to retrieve them while gently weeping. But it's worth a shot, eh?

Heft is definitely a factor! I think you'd have to either go very high-end, with each bead hand-knotted (so you don't spill beads everywhere, in case of breakage), or very low-end, with the beads basically melted onto a string. Or possibly something where your beads were big enough that you could string a ribbon or heftier yarn through them that could hold such weight.

Obviously, I have been thinking about this quite a lot!

I'm thinking this picture's style concept wasn't meant to be taken literally..
more about the big trend of wearing pearls?

hey, how do you tell that the makeup was airbrushed on?

oh wait, did you mean airbrushing as in photoshopping, cos airbrushing is an actual makeup technique as well LOL.

My question, Betsy, is have you been able to resist the siren-like lure of Chickdowntown's 45%-off EVERYTHING sale?? I held out for three days and then caved. Damn them, and they're free FedEx shipping!

I expect to see this 7-foot pearl rope before '09 hits, by the way. Get to stringing!

You could always use vintage 1950's pop beads and make the necklace as long as you want. They're plastic, so weight is not a factor. They also come in lots of colors, so you can mix and match to your heart's content. Each individual bead pops into the next. Do a Google search for "vintage pop beads".
