Quick Dispatch from Fashion Week

Wednesday, September 10, 2008

A few bits and pieces, in no particular order:

1) I sat behind Lauren Conrad and her pal Lo at the Nanette Lepore show today. The girl has some seriously nice highlights. It was paparazzi city! Which was kind of funny, because I was more excited about spotting John Slattery across the runway, even if no one else was.

2) The inimitable Andre Leon Talley dishes on fashion week and The Devil Wears Prada. Good stuff!

3) You're downloading your daily Daily, right? It's the free glossy given out every day at fashion week and is full of insider-y articles and fashion gossip. Today's highlights include a piece on the new Coach campaign, featuring the legendary style setter Iris Apfel (above). She singlehandedly got me to dig out my charm necklace from fourth grade, you know.

4) There's no escaping the boyfriend jean, people. It's everywhere around here. And, I admit, those slouchy, rolled-up cuffs are really growing on me.

5) OK, back to the tents!

Nope, nope, nope. Can't do the boyfriend jean! First it was the infantalization of women with rompers, then they were allowed to resemble children (babydoll dresses and their ilk, coupled with Mary Jane shoes) and now they have to co-opt their man's pants? When does a woman get to be a woman?

Sorry if I'm reading too much into these trends, but I want to dress like a 28 year old female. (crosses arms defiantly) -the DCGF

I have to admit that I was hating on the boyfreind jean at first.

Then one day I decided to bite the bullet and try them out. I paired them With some hugh high to the sky platform pumps, a plain white loose tank, and a shrunken blazer and felt very casual/sexy.

I suggest trying it!

If I'm half as quirky/stylish as Iris when my hair is that white, I'll be a happy gal.

no no no no no . . . not he boyfriend jean. I just say no. the cuffed foldover just sort of, I don't know, leaves me with bad memories of junior high.

it's all about how you rock the so-called 'bf jean'. i prefer to just call it the 'yohji', an homage to the amazing mr yamamoto. i'm bored by overly tight spandexy denim that's so exessively showy, and it's all about the fabric (old-school 100% heavy-ish cotton) and drape (how the cuffs give the whole thing a unique silhouette.

it's just another way to do 'sexy', and if you're comfortable in your skin already it really shows.

i love my jcrew vintage slim jeans!
