Signs of the (Retro) Times: Houston, TX

Monday, November 28, 2011

I am a huge font nerd — seriously, things like "just! look! at that typography!" come out of my mouth at regular intervals. Of course, my favorite fonts are retro-style; imagine my surprise and delight to discover a trove of them during a recent stay in downtown Houston.

I can't say I recommend Houston otherwise (though I hear there's a very nice art scene), but if you have to be there, keep your eyes open.

My parents just moved to Houston, so I will be spending a lot more time there in the next few years. I didn't have much time to explore over Thanksgiving break. Any shopping/other recommendations?

I also love fonts... retro style fonts have their own unique personality and this is why they are not appropriate anytime and everywhere... I must say I have seen some retro-style used in places where they weren't supposed to 'say' what they should. sooo...take care when using it! by the way, the logos you've selected are really looking great :)

did you know it's possible to stay inside of the first building pictured, for free. Couchsurf in Houston it is really the best way to discover more than just the fonts.
